Really Long Week

Greetings from the hospital!!! Yes that is correct, Emma is back in the hospital. She had emergency surgery yesterday to repair the g-tube that was incorrectly placed in her colon instead of her stomach. Yes, we know that the stomach and colon are not adjacent to one another... It was a horrible week of constant diarrhea and a leaky diarrhea g-tube. Everyone said that the g-tube was so great and we were ready to pull our hair out. At either rate her colon is repaired which required a larger surgery and a new g-tube was placed in her stomach. She is doing really well and is in great spirits, which is amazing considering she hasn't actually had anything to eat since last Tues. The doc is concerned about infection around the old wound so we are watching that very carefully. Just wanted to keep everyone in the loop. We will post more later.

This post brought to you by the letter r, the number 7, and parent Liz.

Update

Emma's surgery went very well. She is still recovering and is not quite back to her old self yet but she is getting better every day.

The ENT said that her vocal cords are both moving. The Left fold has a nodule on it that should go away on its own. The right cord is very very swollen and is red. The ENT was not sure what caused that or why it was that way. He thinks that both of them will heal over time. She still has trachial malasia and a new thing bronchial malasia. He feels that all of this should heal with time and said that he doesn't need to see her again unless she is still horse in a year or so.

The g-tube surgery went well also. It will be much easier for us to deal with than the NG. Emma has a pump to deliver food so we no longer have to push food in with a syringe. That will be a god send when dealing with Emma and Kayla because they seem to need to eat at the same time and there is no way that one could push food into Emma and feed Kayla. Emma is sore and is not up to full feeds yet. She is having some trouble readjusting to food so we are keeping an eye on that.

Kayla is doing well. Liz's mom came to watch her while Emma was having surgery/ in the hospital. Kayla is getting bigger every day and is so fun to have around. She is getting better with sleeping through the night. We are really excited to be able to have both girls on a schedule of where they can be in bed by 7:30 and sleep all night long.... It may be awhile. Her thrush is still not gone. I guess it can take awhile

We will have to post pictures later... just wanted to let everyone know the latest on Emma and Kayla.

Exciting News!!!!

Things have been busy here. We are so ready for the spring. We are tired of the snow and cold weather that makes is so hard to take the girls out.

Kayla is doing well. She got her 2 mo. shots last Tuesday and has been irritable since. She also has a bad case of Thrush so that makes her unhappy as well. She is growing and growing. She was 11 Lbs 4oz on Tues. We are still working on sleeping but she is getting better. She will sleep from about 12 am to 5 am. She likes a small snack about 3 am sometimes. Kayla is smiling more and is "talking" too. She is holding her head up really well and can push with her arms. It is so fun to have her at home with us. We are starting to learn her personality.

Emma is also growing. Here is our exciting news.... Emma is 21 Lbs 9 oz today so she can face forward in her car seat. Chadwick can hardly wait to turn it around in the car. She is scheduled for a g-tube surgery on the 20th of this month. We are ready but wish she would have decided/been able to eat everything by mouth. She will also have another bronchoscopy to check on her vocal cord and her larnyx. She may also get tubes in her ears as she has had fluid in them since October. We are calling it the Jiffy Lube tune up. She will be in the hospital for at least one night and will have a sore tummy for about a week. In the mean time, she is climbing stairs, walking using the wall and walking up and down the house pushing the ottoman. It is so fun to watch.

Emma is doing better with Kayla. She likes to help burp her... actually if we try to burp Kayla and Emma is around, Emma comes crawling over to do it. She will actually move our hand out of the way so that she can do it. Emma will also hold her with a lot of help. Emma doesn't understand gentle so we are still very careful when they are around each other.

On to the pictures...

Emma got stuck under the table and couldn't figure out how to escape... she finally did (with help)

Daddy's here to rescue me
Daddy stop taking pictures and help me get out of here. I have more places to explore!

This is Emma's new favorite place to play... the fire place. Notice the logs that have never been used.... wonder why!
Hi Ma ma ma ma

Look at how blue Kayla's eyes are. So cute

Chubby cheeks
The spit bubbles

The following pictures are part of our photo shoot. Liz took the girls to have their pictures taken professionally and didn't like any of Kayla and Emma together so we tried on our own.

Trying to convince Emma to sit still for a minute... good luck!

Emma has figured out how to take off her diaper so now she is taking off Kayla's.

This looks painful but Kayla didn't even cry. We were trying to have Emma hold Kayla... didn't work.

Emma looking so big
Kayla and Liz's finger...Isn't she sweet
