Big Changes...

Well, Emma has had some big changes in her life the last couple days. First, the funky UV light has been removed, so she no longer looks blue. She is now kept in the dark to allow her to sleep as much as possible (although she is awoken every two hours for feeding). However, this evening, the light came back as a precautionary measure. Emma is setting her own pace, and as the nurses have said, it will be a process of Emma taking one step forward, and one step back. We just need to be patient and continue to hope and pray for Emma.

Emma's murmur appears to be gone, so we are happy that she probably won't need to have any surgery.

Emma is also continuing to eat more and more. She is now up to 2ml of milk every two hours (in addition to an IV drip). The nurses are going to slowly ramp Emma's feedings up more, and hopefully we will have Emma eating solely milk within a week or so.

Emma's lungs were doing very well. We decided to push her a little bit, just to see how she would react. She did well, but the doctors decided to back off a bit on the pressure a little bit. Not a big deal... the only way to know how Emma is doing is to push the envelope a bit...

Emma's skin is changing daily. It amazes me how much her skin progresses, some of her sores disappear, and how much healthier she looks everyday.

Finally... Liz and I finally got to hold Emma for the first time! Every week the isolet that Emma 'lives' in gets changed, so during the change we are able to hold Emma. It was a great experience, and it made me appreciate how small she truly is. Here are some pictures from the last couple days...

Emma's PICC line, which replaced the two lines that were in her stomach

Liz's hand in comparison to Emma's Foot. Also notice the PICC line on the side of Emma's head.

Emma is so beautiful-- She looks *JUST* like you, Liz!
Even through the pictures, you can see her improving and getting stronger. Sounds like she is begining to eat well, and I'm sure that is a good sign, she sounds like she has such a strong spirit.

I loved the pictures of Emma with her proud mom & dad, so sweet.

She and you, Liz & Chad, will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.
